We all love to have the feeling of control, especially in workers’ compensation. Hello. My name is Michael Stack. And if you don’t know me yet, I’m the CEO of AMAXX. What I do is help make the complex simple in workers’ compensation.
I work with employers and stakeholders to put in systems and processes and teach proven injury management systems through our certification trainings, our IMR metrics suite, and our product.
The Challenge: Workers’ Comp Feels Out of Control
This concept of control, this idea of control in workers’ compensation. One of the biggest challenges in workers’ comp is that we often feel like things are out of control. We’re getting too many injuries after people get hired. They’re getting hurt right away.

We can’t ever seem to get people back to work. That feels like it’s out of our control. We’re at the mercy of the treating physicians, or we can never seem to get these claims settled. They just go on and on for years and months and years and almost sometimes feels like and can be literally…decades.
So how do we solve this?
How do we get in front of this? How do we be intentional about this?
The Two Levers: Systems and Trust
There’s two things that I want you to focus on from a grand concept standpoint of how we get this feeling of control. We never fully have control, obviously, of anything. But how do we get the feeling of control?
How do we improve upon this? Two things. One is systems, consistent systems, and the other is the exact opposite of that, which is trust. So systems and trust.
Lever One: Systems
When you look at your program, when you look at your injury management program, how do you get this feeling of control?
Putting in injury management systems is one aspect. So hiring, it’s pre hire physicals. It’s good job descriptions. Return to work, it’s good relationships. Settlement practices, good relationships with your attorney and your settlement team and your MSA vendor, your professional administrator, your settlement consultant.
There’s a lot of systems that we teach in our certification programs that are proven, that are going to give you much more sense of this.
Lever Two: Trust
The other side of this is trust…
and that’s trust in building intentionality and building these relationships. That when you communicate with your injured workers at the time of injury, you’re telling them what to expect and you’re delivering what they can expect of you. Working with your adjuster team, your claims partnerships, your occupational health providers, your settlement team, working with those relationships.
And if you’ll hear the theme of this, a lot of this is relationship based.

Simple Systems + Trusted Relationships = Better Outcomes
So when you look at your workers’ comp program, it can seem extraordinarily extraordinarily complex.
But it’s really about simple systems, and it’s really about trusting the relationships to execute on those systems.
And when you do, you will create significantly better outcomes for your injured workers, and you will significantly drive down the cost of workers’ compensation.
