“4-Step Sequence For Effective Employee Screening, Hiring, & Placement”
Socrates said I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think. Hello, my name is Michael Stack, and I’m the CEO of Amaxx. Recently, I did a training called How to Build a Better Safety Culture. So we did 60 minutes diving into this concept of safety culture, and how to build a better safety culture. Built on the foundation of Socrates’ quote, which is, I cannot teach anybody anything. I could only make them think. When you are talking about culture, and building a better safety culture, is it a relatively complex topic? Yeah, of course, it is. Is it simple to understand the foundation, the essence of what you need to build on at your organization, and what I’m going to cover in this little short video blog is the punch line? The punch line of that philosophy of how to build a better safety culture. You can interpret this.
Take this punch line, take it to understand what it means for you, and implement it within your organization. Obviously, you can watch our full 60-minute training as well to go more in-depth into this, but this is the essence. This is the essence of building a better culture built on the foundation of Socrates, quotes, and ideals. I cannot teach anybody anything. I could only make them think. So let’s talk about this. Let’s talk about these three elements of building a better safety culture. What it means in interpreting what it means for you as your organization. When we think about the word culture, it means shared values and concepts, shared principles, and shared beliefs within an organization. The key piece of that whole concept of the definition of culture is the word shared. Shared, shared values, shared concepts, shared principles, and shared beliefs. Shared means culture. That’s culture. That’s a connected group of people that have shared and similar values and beliefs.
Turn Around Your Organization‘s Safety Culture
So let’s talk about this in terms of how to start turning around a safety culture within your organization. It starts at the top. We’re guiding and we’re leading. We’re not telling people what to do. We’re showing them by example. We are building a better safety filter. Safety is a part of the values of the organization. Safety is a core belief within our country, and within our company, and we’re guiding and we’re leading from the front. We’re guiding and leading from the front managers. Senior managers and supervisors have this as a core value. They’re leading from the front. People are watching. They’re saying, oh yeah, look at Tom. Oh, what? Oh yeah. Oh, look over here, look over here, look over here. Oh, I can see this. This isn’t just a nice catchphrase it’s a core value. We’re actually guiding and we’re leading from the front. We’re showing people what to do.
We’re making them think for themselves, oh yes, this is real. This is something that we’re actually doing. We’re asking questions, ask questions. We’re asking questions of our employee base, getting their feedback, building that safety committee, and getting their integration into what we’re doing with these shared values. Hey, we’re guiding and leading from the front. We’re asking you some questions about how you continue to engage in what we’re doing. How can we do this better and how can you help us do this better? Now, this word shared, you’re starting to build some shared ideas. You’re starting to build some shared momentum in terms of this, and you’re getting some buy-in down here. Third thing is
Act on These Questions
act on these questions. The answers act on the answers to the questions that you just asked them. We’re guiding and leading. We’re asking you questions. We’re G, we’re building this word shared.
We’re making you think. We’re engaging you in what you’re doing at this organization. We’re asking you questions, and then we’re following through on those and this whole cycle continues to move around. I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think. Socrates said that a long time ago. This is not a new concept as far as how we start to build this idea of shared culture, shared values, shared principles, and shared beliefs. We engage, we lead, we ask questions, we act in those answers, and we start to build those shared values and beliefs. Again, my name is Michael Stack, and the CEO of Amaxx.
