Justin Harding, Utah Governor Gary Herbert’s chief of staff, recently addressed 42 recipients of this year’s Workers Compensation Fund Legacy of Learning Scholarship luncheon at the Little America Hotel. Harding, himself a former Legacy of Learning Scholarship recipient, focused on honoring the past, working for today and living for the future.
Harding received Legacy of Learning scholarships during his time as a student at Southern Utah University. His father, Clyde Harding was the owner and operator of Color Canyons Aviation and perished in a glider accident on March 24, 1986 when Harding was 10.
Harding now serves as Governor Herbert’s chief of staff and has accumulated more than 15 years of service at the state and federal levels of government.
All recipients have been touched by a similar tragedy – losing a loved one in a work-related accident. The Legacy of Learning event recognized these recipients for their courage and commitment to achieving success. Since 1990, WCF has awarded more than $2 million to spouses, sons and daughters of deceased workers.
“Our hearts go out to the families who have lost someone they love,” said Ray Pickup, WCF president and CEO. “We are passionate about our commitment to these families and are happy to be celebrating the program’s 25th year. The Legacy of Learning program supports and enables recipients to turn tragedy into triumph.”
