Recently the National Safety Council presented its inaugural Stakeholder Collaboration in Occupational Injury Research award to the Migrant Clinicians Network, the National Farm Medicine Center and five partners for the project, Seguridad en lasLecherías: Immigrant Dairy Worker Health and Safety. The project addressed the health and safety educational needs of immigrant agricultural workers in Wisconsin.
The award was presented at the 2015 National Occupational Injury Research Symposium (NOIRS) at Camp Dawson Training Center in Kingwood, West Virginia. It includes a $1,000 prize.
“Working together gives us the greatest opportunity to save lives and prevent injuries,” said Deborah A.P. Hersman, president and CEO of the National Safety Council. “NSC is excited to present the inaugural Stakeholder Collaboration in Occupational Injury Research Award to the National Farm Medicine Center, the Migrant Clinicians Network and their five partners. Their collaborative efforts to reach a population of workers in dire need of attention set them apart from other nominees.”
The Stakeholder Collaboration in Occupational Injury Research award recognizes exemplary partnerships that could help lead to a decline in fatal workplace injuries. These partnerships can be between employers, workers, labor unions, insurance carriers, health care providers and researchers. All occupational injury researchers presenting at NOIRS were invited to apply.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) hosts NOIRS, which is co-sponsored by the National Safety Council and other safety-centric organizations. NOIRS provides a forum for researchers and others to share findings and methods related to traumatic occupational injury.
