New leadership is coming for one national organization.
The National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) recently announced that President and Chief Executive Officer Stephen Klingel plans to retire in February 2016.
“It’s been a great pleasure to act as NCCI’s President and CEO for the past twelve years,” Klingel said in announcing his retirement. “NCCI is a tremendous organization full of talented and dedicated employees and it has been my honor to act as their leader. I am proud of the many accomplishments we’ve realized on behalf of the workers compensation industry during my tenure, and I am confident that our employees will continue to deliver outstanding results long after I have made my exit.”
Klingel came to the organization in late 2002 and is recognized as having the third longest CEO tenure in the company’s 90-plus year history.
“The NCCI Board thanks Steve for his service and for leading the organization so successfully during his tenure,” said Elizabeth Haar, NCCI Board chair, and president and CEO of Accident Fund Holdings, Inc. “During Steve’s time at NCCI, he has delivered impressive business results and strengthened relationships with all of NCCI’s stakeholders, including insurance carriers, state regulators, agents, and independent bureaus.
“The Board believes NCCI is performing admirably, and our desire is to continue its positive momentum. We are in the process of forming a search committee to evaluate candidates in the coming months while Steve continues to run the day-to-day operations of NCCI.
“The Board also has confidence in the talented management team currently in place, not only at the senior staff level but throughout the organization. This deep expertise further enhances the company’s future prospects for continued success with a new leader. We have spent a considerable amount of time on succession planning over the years and are committed to finding the right person to succeed Steve,” Haar added.
Klingel previously served as the senior vice president—Commercial Lines with The St. Paul Companies (now part of Travelers).
