A 36-year-old New York City restoration contractor is looking at multiple charges in a case of workers’ compensation fraud in an investigation initiated by the New York State Insurance Fund.
The defendant is charged with three counts each of insurance fraud, falsifying business records, and criminal possession of a forged instrument – all felonies – following his arrest on May 3.
Authorities say a NYSIF policyholder the individual as a sub-contractor to do work for them. Investigators from NYSIF’s Division of Confidential Investigations said the man allegedly submitted three fraudulent certificates of insurance, listing American International Group as the workers’ comp insurance provider for his company, Superior Drywall and Acoustics Ceilings. The alleged fraudulent certificates left NYSIF’s policyholder liable for approximately $6,622 in unpaid workers’ comp premium, investigators said.
