South Australia Officials Targeting Better Safety for Women at Work

November 13, 2015 By //  by Kori Shafer-Stack 3 Comments

Recently at South Australia’s Government House, Governor Hieu Van Le AO, hosted a reception to present two $10 000 Augusta Zadow Awards to fund projects that will improve the work health and safety of working women.
The annual awards, funded by SafeWork SA, help identify work health and safety issues for women and finance practical solutions or research.

Fourteen applications were received this year, highlighting issues as diverse as minimizing vicarious trauma amongst health workers to maximizing the safety of women at work who disclose incidences of domestic violence.

A $10,000 award to Janet Giles and Anne Purdy will address the work health and safety risks posed by paid work sleep-overs for social and community services workers.

A $10,000 award to Dr. Olivia Lockwood and Andy Roberts will finalize the development of strategies to reduce common injuries to sonographers in their work performing ultrasound examinations, to be undertaken at the SA Biomedical Engineering, Research and Teaching Department at Flinders Medical Centre.

“I congratulate everyone who applied for this year’s awards, particularly for their creative responses to identifying and addressing health and safety issues for South Australia’s working women,” said SafeWork SA Executive Director, Marie Boland.

“The diversity of applications demonstrates the complexity of the issues faced by our modern workforce, particularly for women in the health and community services sector,” Boland added.

Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is valuable and everything. Nevertheless think of if you added some great graphics
or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and videos,
this site could definitely be one of the very best in its
    field. Superb blog!
