There are events, moments and interactions in each of our lives that can change the course of our lives. Hello, my name is Michael Stack and I’m the CEO of Amaxx. And today I want to talk about that concept, as it applies to worker’s comp claims, there are events and interactions and people relationships in the course of a work comp claim that changed the course of the claim. And specifically, I’m talking about these catastrophic claims or creeping catastrophic claims, or these claims that start really small and end up being really expensive and really impactful negatively on that injured worker’s life. I was at the dinner this weekend with some friends, my wife and I were up at dinner with some friends this past weekend. And we were talking about the, that idea of the, what are the, the wife had read this book. I think it was called the midnight journey.
And it was all about this idea of these different things, these interactions in your life. And we also talked about that movie sliding doors with Glenn Gwenyth Paltrow and the idea of these, of these books and these movies. And then that movie sliding doors is that Gwenyth Paltrow either catches a train or doesn’t catch the train, the door slides. She either gets it. She gets her hands and she gets in and she catches the train or in a different instance in the movie, she misses the train and either gets home early to find her husband with another woman and how that impacts her life. Or she gets home a little bit later and the woman had time to leave. And how that impacted her life. The point of this is thinking about this in the context of worker’s comp claims. And I want to give you a tool that can help us identify early on in a claim.
If a claim ha needs more help, if it’s set up to be going off in the wrong direction, if it’s set up to be one of these clans that starts as the shoulder and ends up being this really drastic and life altering type injury. So I want to introduce you to this task called the [inaudible] short form 12, the [inaudible] short form 12. And the nice thing about this little task to this little questionnaire is it’s in the public domain from the public demand. There’s really no costs even to really use it. It’s just a matter of putting it into practice in your work comp program. So I want you to look that up, check it out and here’s the results. Let me just kind of give you that, give you an idea of the results with 95% accuracy. It has been able to predict that a person’s going to recover.
There’s really not much trouble with 81%. Accuracy has been able to predict no, uh, no loss time or no longterm recovery within the next six months. So no long-term recovery, no longterm recovery within the next, within a six month timeframe. So they’ll, they’ll, they’ll maybe need some recovery, but it’s not going to last long in the six months. And then 67% accuracy predicting that there is going to be a long-term issue. So there’s going to be a long-term issue, 95% 81 and 67% accurate. And I want to draw your attention specifically to this one. With 67% accuracy, be able to predict early on in a claim that this one needs some help. This one’s going to need some help. We need some intervention. We need cognitive behavioral therapy. We need field case management. We need some different tools in our toolbox and our work comp toolbox to prevent this from happening because this is very expensive and this is altering very life altering for that injured worker. Understand some of these things that we have available, put these practices and tactics in place to get in front of these things. You’re going to be saving yourselves, huge amounts of dollars of costs on these claims. And you’re going to be saving a massive, massive impact in the life of the injured worker. Again, my name is Michael Stack and the CEO of Amaxx remember your work today in workers’ compensation can have a dramatic impact on your company’s bottom line, but it will have a dramatic impact on someone’s life. That’d be great.
