For one Oklahoma woman, the times could be better.
Attorney General Scott Pruitt recently charged a Tulsa County woman with workers compensation fraud.
RixaJeaton Miller, a former medical assistant at Rehabilitation Physicians of Oklahoma, allegedly claimed to have been exposed to radiation while assisting a physician with a medical procedure involving a fluoroscope. Miller claimed she was provided with an x-ray gown, but not a thyroid guard. As a result, Miller said she suffered from an enlarged thyroid and weight gain.
An investigation by the Attorney General’s Workers Compensation and Insurance Fraud Unit found Miller misrepresented information both to a doctor as well as the Workers Compensation Court.
Claimant Said to Have No Past Thyroid Issues
Miller allegedly told both the court and her doctor she had no past history of thyroid disease. She also claimed her employer did not provide her with the needed thyroid guard.
However, medical records indicate Miller had been treated for an enlarged thyroid years’ prior to this incident. Miller’s coworkers said their employer would not have allowed someone to assist with the injections without the guard on.
Miller is charged with two counts of workers comp fraud.
If convicted, she could face up to seven years in prison and pay fines of up to $10,000 for each count.
