As we’ve pointed out frequently, employers need to be vigilant of the possibility of false workers’ comp claims and scams. Do not be afraid to investigate fraud or suspected fraud. For tips on spotting fraud see our https://blog.reduceyourworkerscomp.com/?p=373.
Recently a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) civilian employee was arrested and booked for workers’ compensation and insurance fraud.
It turns out investigators from the Workers’ Compensation Fraud Coordination Unit (WCFCU) et al, centered its investigation on how the alleged on-the-job injury occurred, the location of occurrence, and what information was or was not provided to treating medical physicians.
They determined the individual’s claim, submitted as an industrial injury, was false. (workersxzcompxzkit)
It turned out the employee failed to advise LAPD, treating medical physicians, and investigator’s of the city attorney’s office, the the injury was actually sustained at his residence sometime prior to reporting to work.
