If senior management is interested in reducing workers comp costs, they need to look at what data they are receiving and what format that data is in.
To reinforce the importance of safety and injury management, senior level management can question general managers at the local level, 1) “How many lost day accidents have occurred this quarter?” or 2) “How many lost work days have there been this past month?”
Give senior management a pocket-sized laminated questionnaire to guide them through important questions to ask when visiting locations. Put 10-12 important safety inquiries on a 3 X 5 card, make it easy to read and graphically interesting — use your logo — then laminate it.
To track lost work days use the Return to Work Ratio.
Or they can rank local business units and operations from Best to Worst.
