Spinal stenosis — What is it and What can be Done?

June 2, 2008 By //  by Robert Elliott, J.D. Leave a Comment

One reader wanted to know what is the treatment is for spinal stenosis.

Dr. Dubin says: spinal stenosis (narrowing) can be the outcome for some people of degenerative arthritis. It may sound more threatening than it is. Basically, there is boney spurring that narrows the space available for the nerves to exit the spinal column. This puts pressure on the nerves and can cause pain. There is no special treatment other than the usual analgesics and non-steroidals. A small percentage of people may ultimately need to have back surgery.

Author Robert Elliott, executive vice president, Amaxx Risks Solutions, Inc. has worked successfully for 20 years with many industries to reduce Workers Compensation costs, including airlines, healthcare, printing/publishing, pharmaceuticals, retail, hospitality and manufacturing.
